Sixteenth Annual Conference on
Civil War Medicine, October 3-5, 2008
Baltimore, MD

The Museum staff is very excited to announce our 2008 Annual Conference on Civil War Medicine. The hotel accommodations are among the best we have ever seen. The Baltimore location boasts some spectacular attractions such as the USS Constellation, dining at the Inner Harbor, historic Fells Point, the Walters Art Museum, the Frederick Douglass Museum, the Flag House where the Star Spangled Banner was sewn and much more.

We are also bursting at the seams with new and unique lectures on Civil War medicine, a Saturday bus tour that is still being developed with probable visits to Fort McHenry, President Station, Federal Hill, Civil War hospital sites and cemeteries.

This year’s conference hotel is the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel, named “best in class” for overall guest satisfaction in 2006 and #5 in North America. Connected by a skywalk to the largest mall in Baltimore County, it is within 15 minutes of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Oriole Park at Camden Yards and Ravens Stadium.

Bring your families and enjoy all of the historic sites, dining, site-seeing and shopping opportunities and while you are at it, eat some of Maryland’s famous crab cakes. This is going to be a conference to remember!

Conference brochures will be available in May and will be mailed to all NMCWM members. If you have questions, please contact Karen Thomassen at Museum@civilwarmed.org or call 301-695-1864.

Annual Call for Lecture Proposals

Individuals are invited to submit lecture proposals for the NMCWM’s Sixteenth Annual Conference on Civil War Medicine to be held October 3-5, 2008. Proposals should be one to five pages in length, typed and double-spaced, and must be accompanied by a bibliography. They also should include the title, speaker’s full name, short biographical sketch including professional and academic affiliations, mailing address, email address, telephone and FAX numbers, and a brief statement as to why the topic is particularly appropriate for this forum. Presentations should be limited to 45 minutes, followed by a five-minute question-and-answer period. All presentations must be in a power point format.

Deadline for submission is April 1, 2008. Proposals should be sent to the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, Attention Conference Program Committee, P.O. Box 470, Frederick, MD 21705. All proposals will be considered, but submission of a proposal does not guarantee an invitation to speak.

We look forward to catching up with each of you next year and welcoming more new attendees to our ever widening circle of friends
